The Manchester Evening News previewed Stories We Tell: Rochdale, our night-time audio and projection walk through the town centre.
The route ran from Rochdale Railway Station to the Town Hall, using 3D sound, large-scale projection and moving image to turn familiar streets into something else entirely. Everything in it came from real Rochdale residents – memories, voices, photographs, archive material.
It was commissioned as part of Rochdale’s year as Greater Manchester Town of Culture, supported by Rochdale Borough Council and Rochdale Development Agency, with funding through the Community Regeneration Partnership and Arts Council England.
The production returned four years after the original Stories We Tell debuted in Deeplish, this time asking what has changed in the town and what has stayed exactly where it was.
Tickets were free and every session sold out inside a fortnight.
The route was step-free and suitable for wheelchairs and prams, with headphones provided and trained volunteers along the way – accessibility isn’t an afterthought on our outdoor work, it’s part of the design.
