About the Experience
This Landscape Is Ours was an immersive light and sound night walk created for and with the communities of Calderdale, developed by Breaking Barriers in partnership with IOU Creation Centre as part of the Culturedale Programme.
Over six months, Breaking Barriers and IOU met with people from across Calderdale, gathering personal stories, memories and experiences of the places that hold meaning for local communities. These conversations formed the foundation of the work. The recorded voices, recollections and reflections were then woven together with visual imagery, soundscapes and animation to create an original immersive experience.
The final product was a night walk through Halifax Town Centre, delivered across four nights in February 2025. Audiences moved through familiar streets wearing headphones, encountering layers of sound, light, and visual content that brought those streets to life in an entirely new way, revealing personal histories and collective memories embedded in everyday places.
